After studying for 4.5 years for my B Cur degree, I qualified as a Professional Nurse in 1976. It was in the Cardio Thoracic ICU that I found my niche in nursing and received a diploma in ICU nursing. I decided to broaden my experience by working for COHSASA, a South African organization that accredits hospitals.
I completed a 6-year stint at St Lukes Hospice as the Education Coordinator. In Hospital I worked for 7 years as the Night Duty Supervisor and thereafter I was transferred to the Education Department where I was the facilitator of mostly 1st-year students.
My favorite area of nursing is palliative care, in which I completed a certificate course. In my view, accompanying the patient on their final road before death is a special privilege.
Currently, I am assisting as the physical home nurse assessor for CareChamp in the Gauteng region. This comprises of home care assessments and care plan creation as well as required nursing procedures. I also ensure to identify the best suitable caregiver(s) for our clients in Gauteng.
